Summary of development: The development of the YQoL is described in three companion articles: Topolski 2001, Edwards 2002, and Patrick 2002. There are also disease-specific versions: Youth Quality of Life Instrument – Facial Differences module (YQOL-FD) (Patrick et al., 2007), (2) Youth Quality of Life Instrument – Weight module (YQOL-W) (Morales et al., 2011), and (3) Youth Quality of Life Instrument – Deafness and Hard of Hearing module (YQOL-DHH) (Patrick et al., 2011).

There are multiple available versions of the YQoL.  The YQoL-R (Research), the YQoL-S (Surveillance), and the YQoL-SF (short form).  There are several versions of each form with different numbers of items (even within the instrument’s website).   We have summarize the most often used versions below.
